Welcome To Politics In America

AMERICAN POLITICS

The Two-Party Theory:

Mostly two dominant parties have continued to run America from the 1790s. After the Civil War, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party have held their sway over the politics of America. America also witnessed the growth of some third political parties such as the Populist Party, the Farmer Labor Party and the Socialist Party. After gaining strength in the initial stages, these parties simply vanished away from the political scenes.
Most of the American population gets covered with the red and the blue labels. Hence, votes for the parties are rallied in the favour of both these parties. The ratio of both the Democrat and Republican population vary in all the 50 states of America.

Political Party Organization:

The Republican Party and the Democratic Party are the two major political parties in the United States. Contrary to the political party system, in some countries, the American political party system is loosely coordinated. There is no coordination of the two major parties both at the National level and also, with regards the placement of policies, membership hold, or any other activities related to politics. There is a vast difference between an American owing allegiance to a particular party and the allegiance of the Briton. An American literally becomes a “party member” by word of mouth.

There are some states in USA, in which citizen voters can record themselves as owing allegiance to a particular party and, can vote for the another party. Such involvement does not help the voter or the choice in any way. So also, it does not provide any sort of obligation with regards to the particular party, except voting in the primary elections of the specific party. At best, a voter can help ascertain, the nominee of the particular party. National committees are set up by both the dominant parties of the US. They are known as the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee. These committees act as a centre for the political campaigns and also, for fund-raising campaigns.

Overview:

The precise make-up of both the Republican and the Democrat parties varies to a certain level. The ruling party installs the respective leader of the party to the White House, who also has to take charge of the National Committee.
